Recently, Car and Driver put the Honda CR-V up against the Toyota RAV4 in a head-to-head test of two popular compact crossover SUVs. This is a long-waged battle between the two vehicles, so it was clearly time that the editors took a side. In the end, they picked the Honda CR-V, stating that it provided the better value of the two.

While the two SUVs are roughly the same size, they're far different in appearance. Some may prefer the RAV4's recent exterior redesign, but we're partial to the classic styling offered by the Honda CR-V. It's when we take a look inside that clear advantages fall to the Honda CR-V, as it offers the more spacious layout -- as well a cargo floor that makes it easier to load luggage, golf clubs, or anything else.

It's interesting that, as the editors noted, the RAV4 offers a bigger engine that delivers slightly more horsepower than does the Honda CR-V, the Honda CR-V gives you the better acceleration.

In the end, the decision to favor the Honda CR-V came down to the fact that, as reported, it offers more space, better engine performance, and an abundance of features -- at a price that's lower than the RAV4 costs.
