Learn More About Your Car's Gaskets

Your car's engine is filled with a variety of different fluids. These fluids need to stay contained within the vehicle and not mix together for your vehicle to run properly. Gaskets keep your car's fluids where they are supposed to be. Gaskets can be made out of steel, copper or rubber.

The head gasket lies between the engine block and your car's cylinder head. There is a gasket in the oil pan to keep oil from leaking out. Your vehicle also has an intake manifold gasket and an exhaust manifold gasket.

It is important that gaskets be in good shape. A gasket that is leaking is referred to as a "blown" gasket. In order to help keep your gaskets in good working order, you should have your vehicle serviced and maintained on a regular basis. At these times, your vehicle can be inspected for small gasket leaks before a big problem develops.
